Another intention of MAPs is to encourage stores to get sales based on quality customer service, good product descriptions and websites, and sound business practices as opposed to pure price slashing. Stores that ignore MAPS cheat on the manufacturer. Why would they treat you any better?

Free shopping comparison sites, such as the soon-to-be phased out Google Product Search, TheFind.com ,and Bing.com’s shopping results allow merchants to list product prices without charging fees. Other sites, such as Shopping.com, Shopzilla.com and PriceGrabber.com, charge merchants to list their products. What will the new Google Product Shopping look like?
